In anticipation for our trip to the Republic of Malta, I wanted to take a look back to our trip to Forte Dei Marmi, Italy in the summer of 2004. That trip never got the “Jurick Blog” treatment as it should have. It was a spectacular trip to the “Hamptons of Italy.”

At the beginning of the 19th century, many wealthy families from Tuscany and the north of Italy started to choose this town for their summer holidays. Later on, also European families started to do so. Many important and famous people started to arrive in the area and the first villas were built in the pinewoods near the sea. Our villa was in the center of one of these gorgeous neighborhoods – with crisp mountain views and a 4 minute bike ride to the beach. We rode our bikes everywhere. Seriously, it was drop-dead gorgeous and everywhere you looked, you had to pinch yourself because it had so much to love.

The Bagnos (beaches) were glorious white, sugar-sand “clubs” with rows of colorful umbrellas, charming cabanas, and of course – luxurious thick-toweled lounge chairs. Italian food, villas (like ours below), and the slow-paced easy lifestyle really enable one to completely disconnect from the electronic world we live in.

From this ultra-gem of a town, we were able to take mini-trips to Pisa, Todi, Collodi (Pinnochio’s real village), Rome and the Tuscany countryside. Take a moment, sip a cappuccino, and enjoy this gallery – which captures the true essence of “summering” in sumptuous Forte Dei Marmi, Italy.
