The REWIND project is a huge curation effort of an entire year’s worth of photographs. Hundreds of thousands of photographs are distilled down to a collection that show a perspective of life from my nook here in NYC. My deepest thanks to each of you who have been part of this journey.
I produce this blog post each year because it enables me to tell a cohesive story of the artists, creatives and clients who collaborated together for the joy of making life’s great milestones truly unforgettable.
In order to grow as an artist, you have to look back at your celebrations from the past year. As 2018 came to a close, I felt like it was a rocket ship of activity. We were making portraits in all locations around the city – in the pouring rain, in the gorgeous bright sunshine and everywhere in between. I am a portrait artist at my core. And oh yeah, can we talk about that cover photo of Eden Jurick above? I captured her at the base of Volcano Pacaya in Gautemala during a raging setting sun this past December. #Epic
I’m super proud of the portraits we created in the past year and that’s why I wanted to kick off the year in review with a look back at New York portraits, Jurick style.
Some of you know about my son Jonah Jurick’s musical alias Hei$t – he’s been steadily working though almost a dozen tracks which was a big story for him last year and I’m psyched to share a few of my favorites below – especially since we collaborated on the cover of his single, “Daydreamin” photographed in Guatemala. COLOR INFRARED
Another exciting area of artistic focus last year was my work with color infrared, a logical extension of my fine art infrared work.

MESMERIZING ROOMS
We are so grateful to work with so many talented artists, caterers, creatives, producers and planners in this industry. Your event really comes together when you and your guests walk into the room for the first time and just say, “WOW”. Preserving that is so important to us and we take capturing each and every detail seriously – from the wide angle to the shot of the oyster bar. We capture every investment detail you make.
During last year’s Phish show on new year’s eve at MSG, I captured this photograph through heart-shaped diffraction glasses which transform an already incredible scene into multicolored, heart-filled wonderland! Had to share this.
PARTAY
Once the planning is finally in place, it’s time to cut loose and really celebrate. We collectively pour so much of our heart, soul, mental and emotional energy into these parties and I’ll be darned if I don’t want to make it look as good as possible long after the confetti is swept away.
At this year’s New Orleans Jazz & Heretige Festival, I captured a few incredible moments between artist and fans. Here’s Matt Shultz of Cage the Elephant riding a wave of fan frenzy.
Legendary moment with Steven Tyler of Aerosmith singing “Dream On” at the foot of the stage on top his white piano to nearly 70,000 fans.

Sometimes it’s the most tender and quiet moments from a party that you remember most.
TRAVEL BLISS
Some of my most personal work is captured during times of travel and this year’s crop includes stops in Guatemala, Colombia, Mallorca, Coppenhagen, Glacier National Park and our very own backyard here atop 30 Rock at the Rainbow Room in NYC. I am beyond grateful to have these opportunities to direct the camera upon such gorgeous scenery. Over the years, I’ve created a pretty good size collection of fine art photographs. Travel by bike is the best way to see the cities you visit. You cover the most ground in the shortest time – plus you wiz by traffic which puts you in great mind. We strongly encourage bike tours for your next city destination.
Rafa Nadal’s brand new world-class tennis academy in Malloraca, Spain. It’s a tennis academy on the edge of the earth for serious players and fanatics.
It’s the simplest of photographs that carry the greatest weight and depth.

I’m going to buck tradition this year and instead of showcasing my top 5 photographs of the year, I’m only picking 1. The reason is that while I’m proud of so many images in this years amazing collection, one truly stands out. It’s of course, Eden at the base of Volcano Pacaya in Guatemala.
